With the MLB season about to enter the month of August, the playoff picture is starting to heat up.
Below we go through the teams that are essentially a lock to make the playoffs, the teams that are on the bubble, and what the playoffs would look like if the season ended now.
Atlanta Braves
The most obvious lock for the MLB playoffs is the Atlanta Braves. At 64-36, the Braves have the best record in the league and therefore, their odds to make the playoffs have been taken off the board.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles are 1st in the AL East with a record of 62-40. Even if the Rays manage to catch them, they would likely be a Wild-Card team. Their odds to make the playoffs are -1000.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays are 2nd in the AL East with a record of 62-43, but are leading the AL Wild-Card by 4.0 games. Their odds to make the playoffs are -1000.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have assumed control of the NL West with a record of 58-43. Their odds to make the playoffs are -8000.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers have a slim lead in the AL West and have a record of 60-43. Their odds to make the playoffs are -450.
Houston Astros
Trailing the Rangers by 2.0 games in the AL West, the Astros have a record of 58-45. Their odds to make the playoffs are -450.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers lead the NL Central with a record of 57-46. Their odds to make the playoffs are -350.
Minnesota Twins
The Twins are the only team in the AL Central with a winning record of 54-50, therefore their odds to make the playoffs are -450.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays occupy the third Wild-Card spot, but lead the chasing pack by only 1.5 games. Their odds to make the playoffs are -270.
Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox trail the Blue Jays by 1.5 games for the final Wild-Card spot. Their odds to make the playoffs are +200.
New York Yankees
The Yankees are 2.5 games behind in the AL Wild-Card race. Their odds to make the playoffs are +180.
Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks are just 0.5 games outside of the National League Wild-Card at the moment. Their odds to make the playoffs are +100.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants are tied for the top Wild-Card spot in the National League at 55-47. Their odds to make the playoffs are -155.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds are tied for the first Wild-Card spot in the National League at 56-48. Their odds to make the playoffs are -115.
Philadelphia Phillies
Also tied for the number one Wild-Card in the National League, the Phillies are 55-47. Their odds to make the playoffs are -300.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins trail a Wild-Card spot by only 0.5 games. Their odds to make the playoffs are +100.
