Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

It's the second of three battles between two of the most iconic, luxurious, and polarizing teams baseball has to offer. You either love ’em or you hate ’em – it’s the New York Yankees (45-20, 1st in the AL East) hosting a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (40-25, 1st in the NL West) for the first time since September 2016.

The first game of the series brought a scoreless duel into the 11th inning before Teoscar Hernandez’s decisive two-run double plated two runs, leading to a 2-1 Dodgers win. Saturday night’s game airs on FOX at 7:35 PM ET.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees betting picks and predictions

Over 8.5 Total Runs (-120)

Today’s pitching matchup breeds strength vs. strength on offense as the Dodgers’ young pitcher Gavin Stone is tasked with limiting the best offense in baseball against right-handed pitching two days in a row, based on OPS and winning percentage.

Likewise, the Yankees’ Nestor Cortes will try to handle the best offense in baseball against left-handed pitching, based on OPS and winning percentage.

Juan Soto’s services were clearly missing from Friday night’s game, but even if he is missing today, the Yankees lineup can still strike fear in the heart of Stone, who is making his first career start at Yankee Stadium.

Stone, who leads Dodger starting pitchers in ERA with a 2.90, has numbers indicating regression may be coming. Stone’s expected ERA is a full run higher, at 3.92.

He has been excellent at limiting the deep ball, allowing just four home runs in 62 innings. However, the short porch in right field, a low strikeout rate, and an expected batting average against of .269 (22 points higher than his actual batting average against), could lead to damage today.

With the Yankees eager to get back on track in a big series, Stone’s inexperience could fall prey to a dangerous lineup.

On the flip side, many Dodger players, like Teoscar Hernandez, Shohei Ohtani, and Kike Hernandez, have seen Cortes multiple times. While this group has varying success against the crafty, deceptive Cortes, the Dodgers knocked around soft-throwing lefty Bailey Falter Thursday in Pittsburgh, and they have proven in 2024 that Cortes is the type of pitcher they can handle.

Despite both pitchers being extremely reliable for their respective teams up to this point, the 2-1 11-inning battle on Friday was uncharacteristic of these terrific offenses. Expect fireworks today and take Over 8.5 Total Runs at -120.

Yankees Money Line (-125)

New York Yankees ML (-125)

Despite yesterday’s loss, the Yankees are the hottest team in baseball, winning 19 of their last 24 games.

While the Dodgers go toe-to-toe with the Yankees in talent and depth, they are still searching for a complete identity and consistency.

The Yankees struggled seeing Yoshinobu Yamamoto and his unique, nasty pitch mix for the first time yesterday, and while this is their first time seeing Stone, he doesn’t have the same swing-and-miss stuff Yamamoto has.

Stone’s best pitch is the changeup, but after seeing Yamamoto’s splitter yesterday, the Yankees’ eyes should be trained up a bit to pick up on the movement of Stone’s pitch.

While we expect offense to dominate today’s game, the Yankees have the more experienced pitcher and have lost consecutive home games just once this season.

With a regular season series for the ages in progress and a potential 2024 World Series preview, we expect to get a proper rubber match on Sunday Night Baseball tomorrow.

Take the Yankees to even up the series.

Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 Total Bases (-115)

Teoscar Hernandez played hero Friday night with a clutch two-run double. Hernandez has been streaky this year, but when he is hot, he rakes. Thursday night in Pittsburgh, Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a home run, so he is feeling it right now. And, in 70 at bats against LHP in 2024, Hernandez is slugging .614 with seven home runs, falling in line with his career numbers versus lefties.

With his confidence soaring heading into an opportune matchup, Hernandez to record one extra base hit or multiple base hits is a bet we feel comfortable making.

Hernandez’s time in Toronto and even Seattle led to many battles in the Bronx, and with a 5-for-13 career line against Cortes, Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 Total Bases is the play, fueling a return to form for the Dodgers’ offense.
