Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets Game 5 Picks

The Los Angeles Dodgers have taken a 3-1 lead in the NLCS over the New York Mets and are just one win away from the World Series.

On Thursday night, the Dodgers ran up the score and finished with 10 runs and 12 hits en route to an eight-run victory.

The Mets offense has gone quiet and the pitching has slowly gotten worse and their season is on the line on Friday night as they turn to David Peterson.

Los Angeles is countering with Jack Flaherty, so let’s dive into this crucial Game 5 and our expert’s best bets.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets Game 5 betting picks and predictions

Los Angeles Dodgers to win (-135)

The Dodgers have been dominant in every aspect of the game in this series. The batting lineup has been particularly special since they have scored 9, 3, 8, and 10 runs through four games.

This is coming against a Mets pitching staff that was phenomenal against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS, but they haven’t been able to limit the star-studded Dodgers lineup.

Last night, the duo of Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts combined to go 5-for-9 with seven runs, five RBIs, two home runs, and three walks. The two were unstoppable, and it helped that Tommy Edman, Enrique Hernandez, and Max Muncy continued to produce in the bottom of the order.

The Dodgers will face yet another lefty on Friday night as David Peterson has earned the start over Kodai Senga. Peterson has been a long reliever in each appearance during this postseason and was having a solid October until he faced the Dodgers in Game 1.

Los Angeles tagged him for three runs, four hits, and a walk in 2.1 innings. The lefty will likely be followed by Senga, who allowed three runs, two hits, and four walks in 1.1 innings in Game 1 and has a 10.80 ERA in two postseason starts.

Pitching has been the biggest problem for the Dodgers in the postseason. However, their rotation has been elite in the NLCS. In the three games that Jack Flaherty, Walker Buehler, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto started, the Mets finished with 0, 0, and 2 runs. It was the contest in which the Dodgers utilized a bullpen game that they allowed 7 runs and lost.

Unfortunately for the Mets, Flaherty is on four days of rest and ready to return to potentially clinch the National League pennant. Flaherty was phenomenal in Game 1 of the NLCS as he threw 7 scoreless innings and allowed just 2 hits while striking out 6. Plus, he has great numbers against the Mets lineup.

Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, Jose Iglesias, Pete Alonso, Starling Marte, Jesse Winker, Mark Vientos, Tyrone Taylor, and Francisco Alvarez are a combined 16-for-81 (.197) against Flaherty in their careers.

Back the Dodgers to win Game 5 and clinch a World Series appearance tonight.

Under 7.5 total runs (-115)

The Dodgers offense has been on fire in this series, but I’m still going to lean towards the Under because of the situation.

The Mets have their backs to the wall and they are going to do everything they can to avoid giving up runs in bunches. That means Peterson won’t have a long leash and everyone in the bullpen is going to be available.

When that happens, it’s hard for the offense to get into a rhythm. Plus, Peterson had been doing well in the postseason prior to his appearance in Game 1 so he could put together a slightly better outing before Senga replaces him.

Finally, the only good news about losing by a lot in their last few games is that New York hasn’t needed to use their high-leverage relievers. They should all be available tonight.

Another reason it’s hard to consider the Over is Flaherty’s success against the Mets. As mentioned above, he’s been spectacular against the Mets starting lineup over the course of his career. That continued in Game 1 when he threw seven scoreless innings against New York and held them to just two hits.

He might not have as long of a leash this game because all of the Dodgers’ high-leverage arms are rested, but I’m still expecting him to go at least five innings. The Under and the Dodgers to win pairs nicely, so those are the two best bets in Game 5.
