These teams were trending in completely different directions heading into this series, but the Angels were able to knock off the heavily favored Dodgers in the series opener behind a solid outing from Jack Kochanowicz on the mound.

The Dodgers are still the best team in the National League, despite not performing at their best over the last 10 games, although Saturday’s contest presents a good chance for them to get back on track and start a new winning streak.

Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-115)

The Dodgers are not a team that loses back-to-back games very often, and they should be in position to even the series on Saturday against an inferior opponent. 

While the Angels have been a thorn in the side of the Dodgers in recent meetings, our expert is of the opinion that the hosts will get off on the right foot and win by a comfortable margin at Dodger Stadium. 

Clayton Kershaw might not be the pitcher he once was, but the left-hander still knows how to get batters out, as shown by his 3.08 ERA over the last three seasons. He might not have the longest leash on Saturday, but he will still hand the ball off to an excellent Dodgers bullpen after he exits. 

His opponent on the mound, Tyler Anderson, is in the midst of his strongest start to a season since he was a member of the Dodgers back in 2022, but his expected metrics do suggest that he’s due for a bit of regression, particularly when it comes to allowing hard contact. 

The Dodgers lineup is the much stronger unit in this game, and they could do some real damage against Anderson and an Angels bullpen that has a combined ERA of 5.02 on the season. 

Ultimately, the Dodgers should be able to take the second game of this series and maintain their lead in the NL West.

Over 9.0 (-120)

This pitching matchup combined with both of these lineups is one that immediately points in the direction of the over, so it was a pleasant surprise that we’re actually getting a solid price on the Over 9.0.

While our expert extolled the virtues of Clayton Kershaw in our run line prediction, there’s still something to be said for the fact that the legendary southpaw is making his first start of the season at the Major League level, the first outing for Kershaw in the big leagues in nearly a year. 

It’s also worth mentioning that the Angels offense has put up 28 runs over their last six games, with three of those contests coming against a fellow elite NL West team in the San Diego Padres. 

On the other side, the Dodgers offense is an elite unit and should be able to bounce back after registering only two runs in Friday’s defeat. The Dodgers have still averaged nearly eight runs per game over its past seven contests, which bodes well for its output in this one.  

All things considered, our expert can only look at the other over in Saturday’s matchup.
