Oregon State 2B Travis Bazzana is the favorite to go No. 1 overall to the Guardians.
Bazzana, a 21-year-old native of Australia, is at the top of draft boards thanks to his hitting ability. The left-handed hitter batted .407 with 28 home runs and a .568 on-base percentage in 2024. In summer 2023, Bazzana won the Cape Cod League batting title and MVP, a significant honor given he used a wooden bat (rather than aluminum in college) and played against the very best-of-the-best in college at the time.
Just behind Bazzana is West Virginia SS/2B JJ Wetherholt (+110). The Pittsburgh native won the Division I batting title in 2023, with incredible .449 BA/.517 OBP/.787 SLG splits. While his numbers dropped in 2024 due to injury, Wetherholt is still considered to be potential star in the MLB thanks to his bat.
2024 Golden Spikes winner and SEC Player of the Year Charlie Condon is third-favorite at +800.
Condon, a multi-positional player from Georgia, led Division I in batting (.433), slugging (1.009), OPS (1.565) and home runs (37), among several other statistical categories.
Another name to keep an eye on is Florida’s Jac Caglianone, who could be the next dual-threat sensation to make his mark in the bigs.
The 6-foot-5 left-hander has 68 home runs across his last two seasons, so his power at the plate is not up for debate. On the mound, his fastball can reach triple digits but the stats don’t necessarily reflect his dominance – he posted a 4.55 ERA across 148.1 IP in college.
Caglianone underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022.
RHP Chase Burns (+4500) out of Wake Forest and LHP Hagen Smith (+7000) from Arkansas have the shortest odds of any full-time pitcher to go first overall.
