The first two months of the 2025 MLB season have featured plenty of compelling contests and the action continues on the diamond on Tuesday with a rematch of last season's ACLS between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees.
Following a season in which it advanced to the ACLS, the Guardians were expected to take a step back this term. However, that hasn’t exactly been the case, as Cleveland holds a 32-26 record and currently sits second in the AL Central.
On the other side, New York still sits atop the AL East standings at 36-22, having gone 7-3 over their last 10 games as they look to keep pace with the Detroit Tigers for the best record in the American League.
While the Guardians are expected to be in the playoff hunt once again in the American League, Cleveland could end up being outclassed in this matchup.
The Yankees might not have the best record in the AL at the moment, but New York still feels like one of the premier teams in the sport and it all starts at the plate for the Bronx Bombers.
Aaron Judge is currently on a pace to shatter records once again at the dish, and it certainly helps matters that the right-handed slugger has terrific career numbers against Guardians starter Tanner Bibee (.500 average, .667 SLG), albeit in an admittedly small sample size.
The rest of the Yankees lineup has been performing well over the last month, and Bibee doesn’t have much experience against the New York bats, which could aid the hosts in this matchup.
As long as the Yankees are able to put up at least a handful of runs, this wager will be in play. Carlos Rodon is getting the ball for New York on Tuesday and he should be in great position to succeed, having allowed just five runs over his last five outings (30.2 innings pitched).
Ultimately, the Yankees should be able to take the first game of this series and keep the pressure on the Tigers in the American League standings.
Even with the potency of these offenses, particularly New York, this pitching matchup is one that immediately points in the direction of the Under.
While a decent outing from Bibee (3.86 ERA) is expected, it’s also worth noting that while Rodon isn’t the ace of this Yankees staff, his excellent 2.60 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, along with his outstanding advanced metrics, show that he should keep rolling against a familiar opponent at home.
The Guardians offense can be a dangerous group, but they have shown to be noticeably weaker away from home this season. As for New York, the Yankees have tallied three runs or fewer in three of the last five contests, and this is a lineup with a lot of unreliable bats outside of Judge.
