Chicago Cubs vs. Texas Rangers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Texas Rangers won their first ever World Series last year and will raise the banner before their game against the Chicago Cubs in a celebration of their achievement.

The Cubs themselves are embarking on a new dawn after making an aggressive move in the winter to secure new manager Craig Counsell, after he left NL Central rivals the Milwaukee Brewers.

Chicago Cubs vs. Texas Rangers betting picks and predictions

Texas Rangers ML -120

The Texas Rangers needed just five games to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks in last year’s World Series and will get to celebrate their first ever title with their home fans after going 11-0 on the road in the postseason.

Manager Bruce Bochy brought the winning touch to the Lone Star state, successfully guiding the team to his fourth World Series as a manager.

Texas will be hoping to ride a strong start from Nathan Eovaldi in this season opener to get their first win on the board.

In a postseason of big moves, the Chicago Cubs made their own with a splashy dugout signing.

The Cubs made Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell the highest-paid manager in Major League Baseball history, with a contract for five years and over $40 million.

The move to the Brew Crew’s biggest rival in the AL Central was badly received in Milwaukee but Counsell will be focused on reviving the fortunes of the 2016 World Series champions.

Chicago also re-signed star hitter Cody Bellinger in the biggest on-the-field move of their offseason.

Marcus Stroman left for the New York Yankees in their biggest free agency loss.

Amid all the other positivity surrounding the Texas Rangers, they have also called up one of baseball’s best prospects, Wyatt Langford.

The fourth overall pick in last year’s draft has a .388 average, .446 on-base percentage, 6 homers and 19 RBIs in 49 Cactus League at-bats.

The youngster is expected to split his time in the Rangers’ outfield with last season’s breakout star Evan Grant and the duo could have a big impact this year.

The Cubs failed to win eight of their last nine spring training games and with the Rangers’ due to celebrate their World Series win, it’s not hard to see why the home team are -120 on the money line.

With the solid Nathan Eovaldi on the hill, the Rangers are taken on the money line.

Under 8.5 runs -115

The Cubs’ Justin Steele is set to do battle with the Rangers’ Nathan Eovaldi in this matchup and this could be a pitcher’s duel.

Both men are coming off the back of strong 2023 campaigns, with Steele sporting a 16-5 record with 3.06 ERA while Nathan Eovaldi had a 12-5 record and a 3.63 ERA.

Steele gave up just one earned run across six innings in his sole meeting with the Rangers while Eovaldi gave up two earned across 5 2/3 innings in his start against the Cubs.

The under has cashed in 12 of Texas’ last 17 interleague games and after all the pregame fanfare, this could be a low-scoring game.

Cody Bellinger to hit a HR +475

Cody Bellinger was the Chicago Cubs’ big winter signing and he could show his value in the first game of the season.

The 28-year-old enjoys Globe Life Field, having hit a home run in three of his last four visits to Arlington and he hit 29 long balls last year.

Stick with Bellinger to hit a homer in this game at +475.

Corey Seager 2+ Total Bases +100

Corey Seager is a key part of this Texas Rangers’ lineup and the infielder has a good record on Opening Day.

Seager has at least two bases in four of his last five appearances on Opening Day and appeals to repeat that feat.
