Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Dodgers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

It’s been a rocky last couple of weeks for the Baltimore Orioles, and things don't get much easier as they head out to California for a difficult series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The issue for Baltimore is it is just 4-6 over its last 10 games and have fallen behind the New York Yankees by two games in the AL East race at this point. The offense has been inconsistent, but the bullpen has been the real issue as the Orioles have surrendered multiple late leads in games against the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox over the last 10 days.

As for the Dodgers, Los Angeles has rounded into form after a slow re-start following the All-Star break. The returns of Mookie Betts and Max Muncy and the addition of Tommy Edman has sparked the lineup, while the starting pitching has done enough to give this team a 22-12 record over its last 34 games.

A 5-1 week last week brought the Dodgers’ NL West lead up to three games over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Los Angeles will look to build on that momentum and create some much-needed separation in the division starting with Tuesday’s matchup under the lights.

With both teams needing a victory for their respective divisional races, let’s get into the odds and our picks and predictions for this interleague matchup on Tuesday.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Dodgers betting picks and predictions

Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (+105)

Both of these teams have talented rosters and quality players all over the field, but we are leaning toward the Dodgers in Tuesday’s contest. 

Jack Flaherty will make his fifth start overall and third home start with his new team after being acquired from Detroit at the trade deadline. The California native is clearly excited to be on a contender, and the numbers bear that out as he’s surrendered eight runs over 22.1 innings in four outings while striking out 29 batters since joining the Dodgers. 

Flaherty was not much of an asset for Baltimore during his time with the team a season ago, but this season has been different as he has regained his top form, boasting one of the best strikeout and walk rates across all of baseball.

It is not an easy task to take on this deep and talented Baltimore lineup, but Flaherty is clearly the preferred starting option in this game, especially at home. 

As for the visitors, Cole Irvin will start for the Orioles and he’d have much preferred getting the start at Camden Yards instead of on the road. After all, the Orioles home park is ideal for left-handed pitching, but he now is on the road against a potent Dodgers lineup that has hit its stride over the last 10 games. 

Irvin has bounced back and forth between the rotation and bullpen throughout the season, but with Trevor Rogers being sent down to the Minor Leagues (and struggling there), Irvin has regained his spot in the rotation for now.

The soft-tossing left-hander is not someone that our expert typically looks to bet on as he simply allows too many base runners to prevent runs, especially without possessing elite stuff. 

Given the starting pitching edge, home field advantage and the fact that their lineup looks much more formidable of late, we are targeting the Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 on the run line as our Orioles vs. Dodgers best bet for Tuesday’s contest.
