Our first wager on this matchup is to target the Diamondbacks at -130 on the money line.

Monday marks the first home game in over a week for Arizona, and the change in scenery should help a team that is certainly better than its record so far indicates.

While Arizona has come up just short in a couple of games, the Orioles have been extremely inconsistent to this point in the season. Baltimore’s offense has registered 4.7 runs per game, but that number is inflated by a pair of performances early on. 

The Orioles have hardly been stout at the plate, tallying 15 total runs over the last five games, and the pitching hasn’t been stellar either. 

Baltimore starter Zach Eflin will get the ball on Monday and he’s been one of the more underrated starting pitchers in the game in recent years, having improved his command greatly over the course of the last two seasons

With that said, Eflin’s one general weakness is his propensity to give up the long ball, as he allowed 1.2 home runs per nine innings with a 3.79 FIP a season ago, per Baseball Savant. 

Now, Eflin’s issue in this game is that he’ll be facing a D-backs lineup that leads the league in runs per game since the start of the 2024 season.

This is not a lineup that leaves many runs on the board, and Arizona is already coming off a disappointing series in Washington, in which they left plenty of opportunities on the table and also found themselves trailing early in every game.

As long as Arizona doesn’t find itself in another early hole, our expert is confident in the ability of Zac Gallen to give the Diamondbacks a much-needed long start before the well-rested bullpen closes the door for a victory to start the homestand.

When analyzing the matchup, this is a game where both starting pitchers should be at least moderately successful.
