Mitch Marner Next Team Odds: Golden Knights favored

Mitch Marner is coming off a career-best 102-point regular season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he enters free agency this offseason.

Marner has scored at least 85 points in each of the last four seasons and has averaged a point per game every year since 2018/19. The 2015 fourth-overall pick will command a heavy paycheck, especially given the lack of depth in the upcoming free agent market.

Now 28, he has been a part of arguably the NHL's most talented offensive group for years, along with fellow Leafs forwards Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and John Tavares. Still, these stars have been unable to lead the team past the second round of the playoffs.

The knock on Marner, who has spent his entire career in Toronto, is that his production has dipped in the playoffs. He has averaged a point per game in four of his nine postseasons, but he reached a nadir in 2024 with just three points in seven games.

Despite being from Ontario, Canada, the consensus around the NHL is that Marner may want to leave Toronto due to its high-pressure environment. That said, he declined to waive his no-trade clause at the trade deadline, mostly because he was about to become a father.

Will Marner stay put up north, or will he find himself a new team? Let's take a look at his next team odds.

The Vegas Golden Knights are the +200 favorite to sign Mitch Marner this offseason. Vegas won the 2023 Stanley Cup and lost in the 2018 Final, and adding a player of Marner's quality could help them get back to the top of the mountain.

The Golden Knights are set to be closer to the cap limit with $10 million in space entering the offseason, but this is an ambitious franchise. They have a handful of skaters over 30 signed to multi-year deals (Tomas Hertl, Ivan Barbashev, Shea Theodore, and Alex Pietrangelo), so they could move one of those players in a salary dump to make room for Marner.

The Carolina Hurricanes are second in the odds to land Marner at +450.

Marner declined to waive his no-trade clause to join Carolina at the deadline, but, as mentioned, personal circumstances played a role there. The Hurricanes' leader in points this season was Sebastian Aho with 74, and the team has been looking for an elite-level point producer in recent years.

Third in the betting are the Pittsburgh Penguins (+600), who have an aging core. With their healthy $24 million in cap space, they could add a star like Marner to bridge the current group of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Erik Karlsson, and Kris Letang with the future.

The Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks are tied with the fourth-shortest odds to land Marner at +850 each.

The Ducks haven't made the playoffs since 2017/18, but they have $35 million in cap space and a strong young core of forwards that features Mason McTavish, Leo Carlsson, Cutter Gauthier, and Trevor Zegras.

Chicago has $30 million in cap space, and the biggest reason for Marner to sign there is Connor Bedard, who just completed his second professional season and has 128 points in 150 career games played. The Blackhawks have a high-potential young core, and Marner could be the guy to mentor those players and lead the team back to the playoffs for the first time since 2019/20.

The Los Angeles Kings (+1000) are next in the betting, and their odds shortened from +1200 a few days ago. They have $26 million in cap space but have nine open spots on the roster, so the question is whether they want to commit half their available money to one player.

The Kings' 2024/25 points leader, Adrian Kempe, will be a free agent in 2026, so the team may want to go all-in on 2025/26 — and sign a player in Marner who could replace Kempe's production in future seasons — in case Kempe leaves.

The San Jose Sharks now have the seventh-shortest odds to land Marner at +1200, and they were +2500 just a few days ago. San Jose has a young team with Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and William Eklund as the key players, and Marner may want to join this young, up-and-coming group.

The last team with odds of 20/1 or shorter is the Utah Mammoth (+1600). Owner Ryan Smith may want to make a major splash before the team's second season since its move from Arizona, and he has $20 million in cap space with just two open spots on the roster as things stand.

The next tier of teams who could land Marner, between 25/1 and 40/1, are the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, and Philadelphia Flyers.
