Read the latest betting pick, predictions and odds for the Minnesota Wild (41-28-6) vs. New York Rangers (35-32-7) in the NHL, courtesy of our friends at Daily Faceoff.
Minnesota has slipped all the way down to the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference after losing four of its last five games. The Wild are now one point behind the St. Louis Blues, who have won 10 in a row.
Fortunately for Minnesota, there are six points separating them from the Calgary Flames, but this is certainly not the position they expected to be in after leading the Central Division standings in December.
Meanwhile, the New York Rangers are running out of time to push their way into the playoff picture. After another win by the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, the Rangers are two points back of the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference after losing nine of their last 13 games.
However, New York has had three days off heading into this matchup, giving them a two-day rest advantage over the Wild.
Neither team has been playing well at five-on-five. Since March 1, the Rangers rank 29th in five-on-five expected goals percentage, while the Wild rank 21st.
However, offense is what really separates these two clubs. The Rangers have scored 2.98 goals per 60 minutes over the last month, compared to just 2.04 for Minnesota, which ranks dead last in the league.
Moreover, while the Wild may be close to being injury-free, they are not out of the woods yet. Star forward Kirill Kaprizov is traveling with the team on their three-game road trip but likely won’t be available to play. The same goes for Joel Eriksson Ek, who is considered week-to-week.
Despite the loss of star power, we should expect a relatively high-event game, as both teams rank among the bottom 10 in shots on goal against.
