The Miami Dolphins have signed ex-New England Patriots running back Sony Michel to bolster their rushing ranks ahead of a likely play-off push in 2022.
The Dolphins, 7/5 to make the play-offs, missed out last year under head coach Brian Flores despite winning eight of their last nine games to finish with a 9-8 record.
McDaniel shakes up Fins' offense
Former San Francisco 49ers run game co-ordinator Mike McDaniel was brought in to replace Flores when he was controversially sacked in January and there appears to be a new emphasis on establishing the run in South Florida.
Only two teams in the NFL accumulated fewer rushing yards than the Dolphins in 2021, while Miami also finished with the third-fewest average yards before contact and the seventh-fewest average yards after contact in the league.

Back in March, the Dolphins added running backs Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert to their ranks and have now dipped their toe into the free agency pool once more by landing Michel.
The former first-round pick for New England spent the first three years of his career with the Patriots, before they declined his fifth-year option last August and traded him to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two late-round draft selections.
Michel returns to AFC East
He now returns to the AFC East in a homecoming of sorts as the 27-year-old formerly attended American Heritage School in Plantation, around 20 miles away from Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
In three seasons with the Patriots, Michel rushed for 2,292 yards and 14 touchdowns - including the only such score in their Super Bowl LIII victory over the Rams.
