Michael Penix Jr.: Player Props, Lines & Odds for Week 16 vs. New York Giants

It took the Atlanta Falcons less than one full season into quarterback Kirk Cousins' four-year, $180 million contract to bench him, and rookie Michael Penix Jr. will replace him in Week 16 of the 2024 NFL season.

The Falcons shocked the NFL landscape when they drafted Penix eighth overall just over a month after Cousins inked his megadeal, and many commentators thought that Penix would complete his rookie contract before becoming a full-time starter.

Now, it seems those predictions were incorrect. Cousins was demoted after completing 11/17 passes for 112 yards and 1-1 TD-INT ratio while also taking three sacks in a narrow 15-9 win over the 2-12 Las Vegas Raiders. Through 14 games, Cousins leads the NFL in interceptions with 16.

Atlanta is currently 7-7 and had lost four straight games before beating Vegas, so they now will turn to Penix to keep their playoff hopes alive. Luckily for them, two of their fellow Wild Card contenders - the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders - face teams who still have plenty to fight for.

If Penix leads the Falcons to a win over the 2-12 New York Giants, Atlanta's playoff odds will move to 38 percent.

So far this season, Penix, the eighth-overall pick out of Washington, has received cameos in two games, completing 3/5 passes for 38 yards. In his final collegiate season, he completed 65.4 percent of his passes for a Division I-best 4,903 yards and a 36-11 TD-INT ratio while leading his team to be runners-up in the College Football Playoff.
