Peter Snowden has given an air of caution to punters about the chances of his exciting sprinter Mazu as he heads the market for the Doomben 10,000 this weekend.

The son of Maurice is seeking a sixth consecutive win and fifth this preparation and is the 19/10 favourite to do so in the field of 15 runners for the Group 1 contest, now being held at Eagle Farm due to adverse weather at Doomben.

Snowden has previously favourably compared Mazu to his dual Everest, for which Mazu is a confirmed entry this year, winner Redzel (Snitzel) and while he maintains that faith in the three-year-old gelding, he also knows that this is his most difficult task to date.

"Everyone is taking it a bit lightly," Snowden said. "If he is going to measure up to what we think he will, he has got to run really well because it is a big test for him.

"It's weight-for-age, he gets hardly anything off the other horses, seasoned horses. They are hard, tough, horses and he is only just out of restricted grade really.

"I know he won a Group Two last start, but it was against his own age. I'm not taking it lightly at all. I am very focused on what we're doing with him and I'm confident he can run well."
