Kansas City Chiefs rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane had an interception during his first career drive, but he was also injured on the same play.
Delane was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2026 in hopes of turning into a lockdown corner on the outside. He's fast, long, and sticky in coverage - all of that was put on display when he ran Courtland Sutton's route for him and jumped in front to snag a Bo Nix interception on the third play of the game.
Unfortunately for Delane, when he was tackled, he landed hard on his right shoulder and didn't play another snap. Delane had been dealing with a right shoulder injury for much of training camp, so there was some concern about how badly he hurt it going into his X-ray scans.
"He actually suffered an injury in the spring and summer on that [same] scapula - landed right on that," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Tuesday. "He's had some tests. X ray negative - that's a good sign. CT scan negative. Not out of the woods yet, but there's plenty of positivity that this is a short-term injury."
Delane will most likely miss time, but it should be "minimal time," according to Rapoport.
His interception kickstarted a phenomenal night for the Chiefs defense that limited Nix and the Broncos to just 176 total yards and 10 points en route to a blowout 31-10 win.
Kansas City hosts the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football this weekend in Arrowhead. If Delane doesn't return for that game, his next opportunity will come in Miami against the Dolphins in Week 3.
