New York Yankees rookie pitcher Luis Gil will start on the mound in a must-win World Series Game 4.
On Tuesday night, Gil will burden much of the responsibility of keeping the Yankees’ season alive.
The Dodgers have stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the World Series behind 3 home runs in 3 games from Freddie Freeman, brilliant starting pitching and impressive fielding, among other factors. LA is +125 to finish it off in Game 4, and a massive -2200 favorite to win the series.
On the other side, New York, who is +1100 to come back and win the series, has looked nothing like its regular season self. Not only have key hitters – including soon-to-be AL MVP Aaron Judge – struggled mightily, but the Yankees did not get good starts from Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt in Games 2 and 3.
Now, it’s up to Gil, a 26-year-old who thrived throughout much of his rookie season but has only pitched once these playoffs – Game 4 of the ALCS vs. Cleveland, when he went 4 IP, allowing three hits, two runs and three walks.
Let’s take a look at Gil’s numbers from the regular season and vs. the Dodgers before diving into his player props and odds for Tuesday’s Game 4.
Regular Season – 29 starts, 15-7 record, 151.2 IP, 3.50 ERA, 171 K, 77 BB (most in MLB)
Playoffs – 4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
vs. Dodgers (June 9) – 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
The Yankees defeated the Dodgers 6-4 in Gil’s only start vs. LA this season. Teoscar Hernandez hit a solo home run and Mookie Betts a two-run double off Gil in that game.
