LSU began its season with a 27-20 loss to USC, and the Tigers' odds to win the National Championship have almost doubled as a result.
Head coach Brian Kelly slammed his fist on the table during his post-game press conference, which likely summed up the feelings of most LSU fans after USC RB Woody Marks ran in the game-winning touchdown with eight seconds left.
Now, LSU is +3500 to win the National Championship after entering the season at +1800.
The teams traded scores throughout most of the game, but the USC Trojans outscored LSU 17-10 after halftime to seal the win.
The quarterbacks played similar games: LSU's Garrett Nussmeier completed 29/38 passes (76.3) percent for 304 yards and a 2-1 TD-INT ratio, while USC's Miller Moss completed 27/36 passes (75 percent) for 378 yards and one TD.
Nussmeier's interception came with four seconds left in the game as LSU tried for a Hail Mary touchdown pass to try and send the game into overtime.
Kelly and the rest of the Tigers will see some missed opportunities from this game.
First off, the defense forced two fumbles, had two sacks and defended six of USC QB Moss' nine incomplete passes, but did not come up with any turnovers.
Plus, LSU were not able to get into the end zone after having a fresh set of downs at the 16 yard line with 2:34 left in the fourth quarter, having to settle for a field goal to tie the game with 1:47 left. That allowed USC to march down the field and score the game-winning TD.
LSU will now focus its attention to this coming Saturday's opponent, FCS team Nicholls.
