Los Angeles FC will host Club America in a one-off match to determine who gets the final spot in the inaugural edition of the expanded Club World Cup.

This game is necessary due to Club Leon having to drop out of the competition because of its ownership group violating FIFA's multi-club ownership rules. The owners of Club Leon, Grupo Pachuca, also own the team Pachuca CF, which will be part of the Club World Cup.

LAFC was selected for this match because it was the runner-up in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions Cup, while Club America had the highest Club World Cup confederation ranking at the end of the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup.
