The Liberty Flames travel to Conway, South Carolina, to face the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the only college football game on Thursday night.
Liberty lost their opening game against James Madison, but have bounced back with victories over Gardner-Webb and Ball State. Liberty quarterback Deshawn Purdie has leaned heavily on wide receiver Makai Jackson, who has nine catches, 230 yards, and three touchdowns through three games.
Coastal Carolina has started the season slowly, with a major opening loss to West Virginia, a win against Fordham, and a defeat to Delaware.
Coastal's offense has been good, but it hasn't been enough to secure victories over difficult opposition. Quarterback Deuce Bailey has averaged 275 yards in the first three games, throwing eight touchdowns and no interceptions. The receivers in this offense have really benefited from Bailey's play, particularly Colton Hinton (196 yards, three touchdowns) and Clayton Coppock Jr. (161 yards, three touchdowns).
This matchup has all the makings of a potential shootout, and could come down to one big defensive play to secure the victory for either side.
