Esports: LCK Summer Wednesday matches

Week six is done and dusted in South Korea's LCK Summer Split and there are only three weeks of regular-season matches remaining before the playoffs begin.

The top two in the division - T1 and Gen.G Esports - have already booked their respective places in the knockout stage and their clash on Saturday is the highlight of week seven.

There will also be many eyes on Kwangdong Freecs this week with the side's playoff hopes having been seriously hindered by defeats in both of their assignments in week six.

They are one of five teams battling it out for the final four playoff berths with Nongshim RedForce, Hanwha Life Esports and Fredit BRION already out of contention with a noticeable divide between those teams and the rest of the division in this split.

Week seven gets under way on Wednesday with highflyers T1 taking on playoff hopefuls KT Rolster and DWG KIA - who start the week in third - playing strugglers Hanwha Life.

Week six was a memorable one for juggernauts T1, who got their revenge against Kwangdong Freecs - the team who beat them earlier in the split and snapped their 24-match winning sequence in the LCK.

Star player Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok rose to the occasion in that game and T1 also won their other match of the week comfortably against lowly Fredit BRION to extend their new winning run to seven matches.

They now have an 11-1 record in the LCK Summer regular season, setting them up nicely for a huge clash with divisional leaders Gen.G Esports, who have the same record, on Saturday.

But first they must navigate their way past a talented KT Rolster side who harbour hopes of reaching the LCK Summer playoffs this year.

KT Rolster are themselves on a four-match winning sequence and the mid-laner battle will be key in this contest with Dae-gwang "Big La" Lee set to lock horns with "Faker".

It is of course important to remember this is a T1 side who went the entirety of the LCK Spring season unbeaten and are widely regarded as one of the Esport's greatest ever sides, so opposing them would be a bold move.

That said, four of T1's last six matches have been settled by a 2-1 scoreline and that was also the score when these teams met in week one, with some fans raising concerns about T1's confidence in that match.

KT can certainly give T1 a game and for that reason they are worth considering at +1.5 on the match handicap at +110 in this week seven opener.

DWG KIA can show their class

Currently third in the LCK Summer standings heading into week seven, DWG KIA are on course to be the next side to qualify for the playoffs after T1 and Gen.G Esports and they begin the new week on a soft note.

Their next opponents are strugglers Hanwha Life Esports, who have really been on the back foot from the start given they are relying on a team of Challenger and Academy talents.

They have no hope of making the playoffs and are simply playing for pride at this stage.

That is good news for DWG KIA, who need a response to their defeat against DRX last time out with DRX bot laner Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu having impressed with a quadra-kill in that clash.

DWG KIA did, however, show some promise in that match in game two, picking a better team composition, completing objectives and limiting their opponents to only one kill in that individual game.

If they can get anywhere near how they performed in that second game when they face Hanwha, it should be a straightforward result.

As far as kills are concerned, it is an area in which DWG have flourished against lesser sides, winning the overall kill count 32-8 against Nongshim RedForce in their other match in week six and 27-7 against Fredit BRION in week five.

And when they played Hanwha earlier this season, they won the kill count 40-21, showing that they can keep their focus in matches they are expected to win.

With all that considered, the best bet in this match could be to back DWG KIA at -8.5 on the Map 1 kill handicap at -120.
