LA Galaxy won its MLS-record sixth MLS Cup to cap off the 2024 season, but star midfield general Riqui Puig will miss about half of the 2025 campaign after suffering a torn ACL in the 2024 Western Conference Final.
In 2024, Puig led all MLS players in touches of the ball, passes completed, passes attempted, fouls drawn, progressive passes, passes into the attacking third, total ball-carrying distance, and total progressive ball-carrying distance. Essentially, he's not just the Galaxy's most important player – he's arguably the most important player to any team in MLS.
Galaxy manager Greg Vanney will have to figure out how to win without Puig to ensure the team doesn't lose ground in the playoff race. The team bolstered its midfield and attack through the transfer market, signing midfielders Elijah Wynder and Lucas Sanabria as well as attackers Christian Ramirez and Matheus Nascimento.
Plus, the team still has star attackers Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Chaves Pec, and Marco Reus.
The Galaxy enter the 2025 season among the outright favorites, and the team has a few players in contention for the Golden Boot.
