Kumar Rocker, the highly-touted Texas Rangers pitcher who won the College World Series Most Outstanding Player Award back in 2019 with Vanderbilt, finally reached MLB last season and makes his season debut tonight, March 31st, against the Cincinnati Reds.
Rocker appeared in three games at the end of 2024, posting an 0-2 record with a 3.86 ERA, 1.543 WHIP, 106 ERA+, 14-6 K-BB ratio, and six runs allowed in 11.2 innings pitched.
Out of the 630 pitchers to face at least 50 batters in 2024, Rocker cracked the top 50 pitchers in chase rate (33.3 percent) and barell rate (2.9 percent). He Also posted an expected batting average of just .211 and a strikeout rate of 25.5 percent in his small sample size from last season.
Rocker mostly pitched against MLB-quality opponents in Spring Training, and he put up sub-standard numbers including a 9.00 ERA, 20-9 K-BB ratio, three home runs allowed, and 13 runs allowed in 13.0 innings pitched.
