The NBA Draft is about a week away, and former Duke shooting guard/small forward Kon Knueppel has been one of the biggest movers on draft boards in recent days.
In one season at Duke, the Wisconsin native averaged 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steal while shooting 47.9% overall, 40.6% from three, and 91.4% from the free-throw line.
In a draft where — aside from the consensus top two prospects Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper — many of the potential lottery picks are good at a lot of things but not great at anything, Knueppel's shooting stands out.
Knueppel proved at Duke that he does not need the ball to be effective thanks to his movement and catch-and-shoot ability, meaning he could fit seamlessly with a number of teams across the NBA landscape.
He also showed up when it mattered most, although Duke was not able to get further than the National Semifinal in the tournament.
Knueppel scored 21 points with five rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the Regional Final win over Alabama. He then dropped 16 points with seven boards, two assists, and a steal while shooting 5/9 overall and 3/5 from deep in his team's National Semifinal loss to Houston.
Ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, which is scheduled to start on Wednesday, June 25, let's take a look at Knueppel's latest odds.
Over 5.5 | -115 |
Under 5.5 | -115 |
Knueppel's current draft position line is 5.5, which puts him in the range of the Utah Jazz (who own the fifth pick) and the Washington Wizards (who own No. 6).
One team to watch is the Philadelphia 76ers, who own the third pick. Coming off a disappointing season with injuries hampering veteran stars Joel Embiid and Paul George, they may want to pick a plug-and-play prospect who can immediately complement Embiid, George, Tyrese Maxey, and Jared McCain.
If Knueppel falls, the Houston Rockets, who pick 10th as things stand, could take the former Blue Devils standout. Houston earned the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference this past season, but they finished 21st in three-point percentage, meaning Knueppel's biggest strength would help cover their main weakness.
Top 5 Pick | -110 |
Kon Knueppel is one of the players most likely to be drafted with one of the first five selections in the 2025 draft.
Top prospects Flagg and Harper are not listed, reflecting their extreme likelihood to go in the top five. Still, only three players have shorter odds to be a top-five pick than Knueppel.
Those players are former Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe (-2500), former Rutgers small forward Airious "Ace" Bailey (-800), and former Texas guard Tre Johnson (-400).
Number 1 Overall Pick | +15000 |
Number 2 Overall Pick | +15000 |
Number 3 Overall Pick | +1400 |
Number 4 Overall Pick | +175 |
Number 5 Overall Pick | +350 |
Number 6 Overall Pick | +425 |
Number 7 Overall Pick | +275 |
Number 8 Overall Pick | +700 |
Number 9 Overall Pick | +2500 |
Number 10 Overall Pick | +3000 |
Knueppel's Overall Pick odds indicate that he's likely to go in the middle of the top 10.
He's the +175 favorite to be picked fourth, which is owned by the Charlotte Hornets. That franchise may see Knueppel's shooting ability and off-ball movement as a nice complement to point guard LaMelo Ball, small forward Miles Bridges, and center Mark Williams.
Knueppel is also 5/1 or shorter to be picked fifth (+350), sixth (+425), or seventh (+275). The Utah Jazz own No. 5, the Washington Wizards have No. 6, and the New Orleans Pelicans hold No. 7.
