Khaman Maluach, a 7-foot-2 center who played one season with the Duke Blue Devils, is among the top prospects heading into the 2025 NBA Draft.
Duke head coach Jon Scheyer kept Maluach in a pretty simple role as a rim-runner, rebounder, and shot blocker, but some scouts think he has sky-high potential.
Maluach averaged 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds (2.7 offensive rebounds), 0.5 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 21.2 minutes per game. He shot 71.2% from the field and made a solid 76.6% of his free throws.
The main question is how much he can add to his game. The South Sudan native has often been compared to Cameroonian-born center Joel Embiid in terms of the players' respective journeys. While Maluach has a long way to go to reach Embiid's MVP standards, few people thought Embiid would go on to win basketball's top individual award when he started playing the game at age 15.
Regardless, Maluach has all the tools to become a solid modern-day center for whichever team drafts him. With about a week left until the 2025 draft, let's look at Maluach's odds.
Over 8.5 | -115 |
Under 8.5 | -115 |
Maluach's draft position line is 8.5, which puts him in the range of the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors, who own picks No. 8 and No. 9, respectively.
The Nets currently have center Nicolas Claxton signed through 2029, but Raptors center Jakob Poeltl has a player option for 2026/27, which could provide Maluach with one season to learn from a veteran before moving into a larger role on the team.
The Washington Wizards, who own the No. 6 pick, could go for Maluach if they see last year's No. 2 pick, Alex Sarr, as a power forward. The Philadelphia 76ers, who have the No. 3 pick, may also consider the center if they need a backup for Embiid.
Top 5 Pick | +320 |
The only 'Top X Pick' market that Maluach is listed in is for the top five, meaning oddsmakers see him as very likely to at least be in the top 10.
Maluach has the sixth shortest odds in the top-five pick market, which does not include consensus No. 1 and No. 2 picks Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper, respectively. The Dallas Mavericks are predicted to take Flagg at No. 1, and the San Antonio Spurs are primed to either pick Harper at No. 2 or trade the pick to a team that will draft him.
The other teams in the top five are the Sixers, who have a superstar center in Embiid but could use a backup, the Charlotte Hornets, who may trade current center Mark Williams, and the Utah Jazz, who have center Walker Kessler set for restricted free agency after the upcoming season.
Number 1 Overall Pick | +15000 |
Number 2 Overall Pick | +12500 |
Number 3 Overall Pick | +1800 |
Number 4 Overall Pick | +900 |
Number 5 Overall Pick | +1000 |
Number 6 Overall Pick | +600 |
Number 7 Overall Pick | +450 |
Number 8 Overall Pick | +400 |
Number 9 Overall Pick | +320 |
Number 10 Overall Pick | +800 |
Maluach has odds of 10/1 or shorter to be drafted with six of the top 10 picks in the 2025 draft, which reflects the uncertain nature of this year's draft beyond the top two picks.
He has the shortest odds at +320 to be drafted with the ninth pick, which is owned by the Raptors. He's also the +400 second-favorite to be picked eighth, which is the Nets' pick.
Maluach is third in the odds at +450 to be picked seventh, which is owned by the New Orleans Pelicans. He's also +900 to be picked fourth, where the Charlotte Hornets are currently slated to draft.
