Kevin Durant Next Team Odds

The Phoenix Suns had the most expensive team in NBA history in the 2024/25 season, and after going 36-46 in the regular season and missing the playoffs, the front office will look for ways to reduce costs this offseason.

Kevin Durant, who is slated to make $54 million next season, has the team's largest contract but could be the easiest player to trade.

The Suns' other stars are Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Booker, 28, is a homegrown talent who has spent his entire career in Phoenix, and Beal has a no-trade clause.

In 2024/25, Durant played 62 games and averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 52.7 percent overall, 43.0 percent from three-point range, and 83.9 percent from the free-throw line. But, he'll be 37 when the 2025/26 season starts, and it's unknown if teams would be willing to part with major assets to acquire him at this stage.

Durant has made his list of preferred destinations clear, according to reports, and that has made an impact on his next team odds.

Entering the 2025 NBA offseason, which could be one of the craziest in recent memory, according to reports, let's take a look at the odds to be KD's next team.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were favored to be Kevin Durant's next team on the morning of June 16, but Shams Charania reported later that day that KD has "no desire" to end up in Minnesota.

As a result, the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets (+250 each) are now the joint favorites to acquire Durant.

The Heat are looking for a star to replace Jimmy Butler's production after his trade to the Golden State Warriors in the middle of the 2024/25 season. KD may have to accept being the third option in the offense behind Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo, which Butler did not, leading to his exit.

The Rockets could use KD's shooting ability and experience: Houston finished 21st in three-point percentage (35.3%) and had the 10th-youngest average age of any team (24.9 years). Houston has plenty of young talent, including Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Reed Sheppard, and Cam Whitmore, and the fact that they have the Suns' 2025 and 2027 first-round picks could sweeten a potential deal.

The San Antonio Spurs, who will look to turn a corner in franchise player Victor Wembanyama's third NBA season, are next in the betting at +275 to acquire Durant. While they don't have many players on long-term deals, a package including Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, and perhaps reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and/or one of San Antonio's two lottery picks in the 2025 draft could make a deal possible.

The Timberwolves (+450), who have been eliminated in the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons, are now fourth in the odds to acquire Durant, a steep drop-off from their recent status as +160 favorites. The franchise could see Durant as both a mentor and running mate for Anthony Edwards, and the T-Wolves have Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo on tradeable contracts as well as a few prospects on rookie deals.

Fifth in the market are the Toronto Raptors (+800), who own the ninth pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Reports have also surfaced that the team is willing to trade shooting guard/small forward RJ Barrett, so a package that includes Barrett and draft picks may be enough to convince Phoenix. However, getting a deal done may be difficult due to the Suns' second-apron restrictions.

The Memphis Grizzlies are tied with KD's current team, the Phoenix Suns, at +2000. Beyond those two teams, between 35/1 and 50/1, are the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Dallas Mavericks.
