American swimmer Katie Ledecky is entering her fourth Olympics and she is three medals away from breaking the record for most medals won by a female swimmer.
Now 27, Ledecky's Olympic career began in London 2012, where she won gold in the women's 800m freestyle. All 10 of her Olympic medals have come in freestyle events.
In Rio 2016, she won the 200m, 400m, 800m and 4x200m. In Tokyo 2020 - which took place in 2021 due to the pandemic - she won the 800m and 1500m.
Ledecky and her relay teammates took silver in the 2016 4x100m, and she took silver in the 400m and 4x200m events in Tokyo.
Ledecky also holds two world records as well as a national record, which used to be a world record. Her world record times are 8:04.79 in the 800m freestyle and 15:20.48 in the 1500m freestyle; her US record is a 3:56.46 in the 400m freestyle.
With the Olympics approaching, let's look at Ledecky's odds to win gold.
Katie Ledecky | +400 |
Ledecky opened as the swimmer with the third-shortest odds to win the women's 400m freestyle this summer.
She sits behind Ariarne Titmus (-250) and Summer McIntosh (+275) in the odds, and the three favorites are the only swimmers in the market with odds below 10/1.
McIntosh represents Canada and has been tipped as a potential breakout star of the upcoming Olympics. It will be her first Olympics, and she finished second behind Ledecky in the 400m freestyle at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships before taking the bronze at the 2023 edition behind both Ledecky and Titmus.
Hailing from Australia, Titmus proved herself to be Ledecky's biggest competition at the last Olympics in Tokyo. Titmus won gold in the 400m freestyle and the 200m freestyle as Ledecky finished second in the 400 and fifth in the 200.
