Home of the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Stadium is set to host six World Cup games in 2026.
Kansas City Stadium is located 13 miles from downtown Kansas City. The stadium will host four group stage games, and two knockout round games at the 2026 World Cup.
The group stage will feature Argentina, Algeria, Ecuador, Curacao, Netherlands, Austria, and Tunisia. The first knockout round match will be round of 32, and the second will be a quarterfinal match on July 11th.
The Kansas City Stadium is the 4th-largest NFL stadium. It went under a $375 million renovation that was completed in 2010. There was an additional $20 million renovation recently that was completed to prepare for the World Cup.
There were pitch improvements, installing advanced moisture control system under the field. Over 3,000 seats on the visiting sideline were replaced to widen the pitch for soccer matches. All of the upgrades were designed to be adaptable to convert in time for the upcoming NFL season.
The stadium is designed in an oval shape, the bowl-style traps the sound and directs it onto the filed. The stadium is engineered to funnel fan noise onto the field. It previously earned a Guinness World Record for the loudest stadium crowd (142.2 decibels).
