The Indianapolis Colts are 4-4, and they decided to turn to Joe Flacco over 2023 third-overall draft pick Anthony Richardson to start at quarterback ahead of the Week 9 game against the 5-2 Minnesota Vikings.
Richardson played in six games and completed just 44.4 percent of his passes for 958 yards and a 4-7 TD-INT ratio as teams forced him to throw long - he averaged 12.9 intended air yards per pass and a league-high 16.2 yards per reception - thanks to his inexperience under center.
Flacco, on the other hand, is a 39-year-old with a championship and nearly 200 NFL regular season starts under his belt. He and Richardson are both .500 as starters this year - Flacco has four stars; Richardson has eight - but Flacco has completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 716 yards and a 7-1 TD-INT ratio.
Opposing defenses are more wary of his arm and allow him to throw for 8.7 intended air yards per pass attempt, showing coordinators are much more likely to position their defensive backs deep against the veteran.
Fortunately for Flacco, he faces a team with a bottom-five pass defense on Sunday night in Week 9. The Vikings rank 30th out of 32 teams in passing yards allowed (1,841), and they rank 28th in passing touchdowns allowed (14).
Ahead of an intriguing matchup in which the Colts should have an easier time moving the ball thanks to Flacco's ability to make throws to all levels on the field, let's look at the veteran QB's odds for the contest against Minnesota.
