No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes true freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has burst onto the scene this season, and there's a good chance he plays a big part in his team's game plan against Nebraska in Week 9.
Smith is coming off a bye week, which followed Ohio State's 32-31 Week 7 loss to Oregon, who are now ranked No. 1 as a result. The Buckeyes' current No. 4 ranking is their lowest of the season, including the preseason AP Poll.
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Smith has caught 32 passes for 553 yards and seven TDs, and he has rushed twice for 33 yards and a score.
Smith has scored a touchdown in all six games he has played in so far. He began the season - and his college career - with a two TD performance against Akron, also catching six passes total for 92 yards in that game.
The first-year wideout has not caught fewer than three passes in a game, and that three-reception outing was in an emphatic 49-14 win.
His best game of the season was against Western Michigan in Week 2, where he caught five passes for 119 yards and a score, but arguably more impressive was his nine-catch, 100-yard, one-TD game last time out against Oregon.
Ohio State will look to make a statement in each remaining game as they look to avoid adding yet another loss to their record. With few undefeated teams remaining in College Football, they look on course for a College Football Playoff spot, but big wins and big performances from the likes of Smith will help their case.
