Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has had a historic season, and he'll look to cap it off by helping his team to victory in the National Championship against Notre Dame.
The Buckeyes face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, January 20th. They've beaten Tennessee, Oregon and Texas in order to get to this point.
Though 16 games this season, Smith has caught 71 passes for 1,227 yards and a Big Ten-best 14 receiving TDs.
In the first round of the CFP against Tennessee, the first-year WR caught six passes for 103 yards and two TDs. He scored his first one less than three minutes into the game from a 37-yard reception, and he scored early in the third quarter off a 22-yard reception.
Smith was even better against Oregon in the quarterfinals, catching seven passes for a career-high 187 yards and two scores. He opened the scoring with a 45-yard TD reception one minute into the game, and he scored on a 43-yard reception early in the second quarter to push Ohio State's lead to 24-0.
In the semifinals against Texas, he was kept quiet - one catch, three yards, no scores - as his opponents kept three defenders around him for most of the game. But, that strategy came at the expense of the rest of the Longhorns' defense as Ohio State won 28-14.
The star wideout will face a tough test in the National Championship, as Notre Dame's defense has allowed the lowest completion percentage (50.7) and second-fewest passing yards per game (165.3) this season.
