Jayson Tatum played an instrumental role in helping lead the Boston Celtics to the franchise's NBA-record 18th Championship, and he will look to start the 2024/25 season on a high note against the New York Knicks.
This matchup is a potential Eastern Conference Finals preview. The Celtics kept their Championship-winning roster together and enter the season as outright favorites, while the Knicks added Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges this offseason to bolster their chances.
Tatum is likely to be matched up with either Bridges or another elite perimeter defender, OG Anunoby, for most of Tuesday night's game. Both Bridges and Anunoby held their opponents to under 47 percent shooting on average last year.
In the 2023/24 season, Tatum posted a career-high 4.9 assists. That rose to 6.3 assists per game in the playoffs, although his tendency to facilitate grew greater the more he struggled to shoot - he made just 28.3 percent of his three-point attempts in last season's playoffs.
Early in the 2024/25 campaign, it's more likely that he will have to help out on the interior as Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis will miss the start of the season with an injury.
Before the season-opening matchup against a Knicks team that looks likely to rival Boston in the East, let's look at Tatum's player props for the game.
