Long-considered a future pound-for-pound star of the sport, IBF welterweight champion Ennis (-3500) enters the bout in Philadelphia an overwhelming favorite to retain his title.
However, after laboring to a decision win in their first meeting, the onus, for many, is on ‘Boots’ to go one better this weekend and record his 30th stoppage victory.
Ukraine’s Chukhadzhian (+1300) earned his second shot at the IBF title with a comprehensive decision win over Britain’s Harry Scarff in May of this year, but will once again be the heavy underdog against the slick, switch-hitting Ennis.
Chukhadzhian spent large portions of their first encounter refusing to engage, utilising his movement in order to stay safe and out of range from Ennis’ attacks. I expect him to employ similar tactics on Saturday night, however, I do expect Ennis to improve on what was a fairly lacklustre showing and win in more impressive fashion.
I feel a price of -500 on Ennis To Win By KO/TKO is a little expensive considering how the first fight went, so instead I’ll be looking for some additional value by playing Ennis To Win By KO/TKO in Rounds 7-12 at +105.
I feel like a fighter of Ennis’ undoubted quality will make the adjustments and force Chukhadzian to engage. However, the champion may have to remain patient and slowly break his man down in the later rounds
