Jalen Carter was selected ninth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft.
One of the mainstays of the national championship-winning Georgia defense, Jalen Carter has been an NFL-caliber prospect for some time.
Let's take a look at what he bring to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Position: Defensive tackle
Height: 6-3
Weight: 314 pounds
Age: 22
College: Georgia
2022 College Stats: 32 tackles, seven for loss with three sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles in 13 games, nine starts.
Carter was a cornerstone of the Bulldogs' national championship-winning team in 2021 and led a defense that allowed the fewest rushing yards per game (77.1) in 2022.
A generational talent, his play on the field earned him first-team AP All-American and all-conference honors, but off-field incidents have raised enough concerns that he slid down draft boards.
It is not just off-field concerns that have led teams to question Carter's suitability, as his attitude was further scrutinized when, at Georgia's pro day, he showed up nine pounds over his weight and couldn't finish his drills.
Not only was that embarrassing for himself, but it annoyed many representatives from all the teams in attendance. He later refused to entertain any visits with teams selecting outside the top 10.
That being said, Carter was thought to be one of the best defensive players in college football last year, good enough that the Eagles traded up to the #9 overall pick to select him.
