Jahan Dotson 2024 Odds: New Philadelphia Eagles WR is +600 to reach 1,000 receiving yards

The Philadelphia Eagles sent draft picks to the Washington Commanders to acquire wide receiver Jahan Dotson.

Dotson projects to be the Eagles' No. 3 wide receiver, behind AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Philly sent a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 draft to NFC East rivals Washington in exchange for the receiver, who the Commanders drafted 16th overall in 2022.

Dotson played for three different starting QBs in two seasons with the Commanders. He posted nearly the same number of yards in each of his first two seasons, gaining 523 yards on 35 receptions as a rookie in 2022 and 518 yards on 49 receptions in 2023.

The 24-year-old wideout from Newark, New Jersey has 11 career TD catches - he scored seven in '22 and four in '23. Two of his four TDs in 2023 were scored against the Eagles, including a game-tying TD as time expired to send the first game between the teams last year into overtime.

Dotson attended Penn State for college and his role on the team increased in each of his four seasons.

He had 13 receptions for 203 yards in eight games as a freshman, 27 receptions for 488 yards and five TDs in 13 games as a sophomore, 52 receptions for 884 yards and eight TDs in nine games as a junior, and 91 receptions for 1,182 yards and 12 TDs as a senior.

In Philly, Dotson provides the Eagles with a solid No. 3 wideout. Three different players played the role in 2023 - Quez Watkins, Olamide Zaccheaus and Julio Jones - but none of the three gained over 200 yards for the season.

Sure, the Birds' top two WRs, Brown and Smith, saw more of the ball than anyone else as they gained 1,456 receiving yards and 1,066 receiving yards respectively, but Dotson could draw some attention away from the two stars.

Dotson was the third-leading receiver on a 4-13 Commanders team in 2023, playing for a QB - Sam Howell - who posted a 21-21 TD-INT ratio for the season. Even though Eagles QB Jalen Hurts had a down year in 2023, he still had a better completion percentage and TD-INT ratio than Howell.

Whether he breaks out and finally lives up to the potential his draft position indicates or merely takes some attention away from Brown and Smith, Dotson will be a welcome addition in the City of Brotherly Love.
