Iowa's Caitlin Clark breaks all-time Women's College Basketball scoring record

Iowa senior guard Caitlin Clark became the all-time leading scorer in Women's College Basketball history with a three-pointer from the logo in front of a home crowd on February 16.

Clark broke the record formerly held by Kelsey Plum, who scored 3,527 total points in four years at the University of Washington.

Clark's record-breaking basket came early in a game where she ended up scoring a career-high 49 points in a 106-89 Iowa win over Michigan.

In her four years at Iowa, Clark has never averaged less than 25 points per game in a season. She began her career averaging 26.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game, and for her career, she averages 28.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game.

Clark's 49-point performance was her 11th game with 40 or more points in her collegiate career. As a result of her long-range shooting and high-volume scoring ability, Iowa has consistently sold out home and away games.

Clark has four more regular season games remaining this year - as well as the tournament - in which she can extend her lead as the all-time leading scorer.

She made national headlines for her efforts in the 2023 Women's College Basketball Tournament, where she led Iowa to the championship game and scored 41 points to beat previously-undefeated South Carolina in the semifinals. Clark scored 30 points in a loss to LSU in the championship game.

In the 2023 tournament, Clark set records including most total points with 191, most total assists with 60, and most three-pointers made in a championship game with eight. Plus, her back-to-back 41-point performances against Louisville in the quarterfinals and South Carolina in the semifinals made her the first player in tournament history with consecutive 40-point games.

She has one more year of eligibility in college, but if she decides to go pro after this season, Clark is projected to be the top pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft which takes place on Monday, April 15.

Iowa has the joint-second-shortest odds to win the 2024 Women's College Basketball Tournament at +800.
