Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics: 2024 NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals series odds

The Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers, the league's two highest-scoring teams in the regular season, will face off in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Pacers, under head coach Rick Carlisle, led the NBA with 123.3 points per game in the regular season thanks in part to playing at the league's second-highest pace of 101.7 possessions per game.

The Celtics played at only the 20th-fastest pace with 97.2 possessions per game, but a league-high 47 percent of their field goal attempts were from three. They hit their threes at the NBA's second-best three-point percentage of 38.8 percent.

Indiana is led by All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton (18.8 points and 8.1 assists per game in playoffs) and 2019 NBA Champion forward Pascal Siakam (21.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in playoffs), as well as a talented group of role players. Seven Pacers average double-digit scoring this postseason.

Boston runs a much shorter rotation under head coach Joe Mazzulla, with him relying on eight players. The biggest question relates to the health of Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis, who has played in just four playoff games this season while dealing with a calf injury.

Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics playoff history

The Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics have met 29 times in the NBA Playoffs split over six different series.

The teams first met in the 1991 first round, which was a best-of-five at the time. Boston won in five games, with Reggie Lewis, Larry Bird and Kevin McHale each averaging over 20 points. Bird also averaged 8.4 rebounds and a series-high 8.6 assists per game.

Boston met Indiana in the first round again the following postseason. The Celtics, without Bird this time, won in a three-game sweep over a Pacers team led by Reggie Miller and Detlef Schrempf.

The third playoff series between Boston and Indiana was in the 2003 first round. Boston won in six games as they were led by Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker, while Indiana had Miller joined by then-young players Jermaine O'Neal and Ron Artest (later Metta World Peace).

The teams met again in the 2004 first round, and Indiana got its first playoff series win over the Celtics in a four-game sweep. O'Neal and Al Harrington formed a formidable duo inside while the rest of the team shot a solid 39.2 percent from three.

In the 2005 playoffs, the Celtics and Pacers met for the third consecutive postseason. Indiana held Boston to 85 points or less in four of the seven games, and both teams averaged less than 90 points per game in the series.

The most recent postseason meeting was in the 2019 first round, which the Celtics won in a sweep. Boston had Kyrie Irving, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Gordon Hayward against a Pacers team led by Bojan Bogdanovic, Tyreke Evans, Darren Collison and young centers Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis.
