Mikaela Mayer (20-2, 5 KOs) and Sandy Ryan (7-2-1, 3 KOs) will take the ring on Saturday in what is one of the most highly anticipated title fight rematches in recent memory.
The two fought previously on September 27, 2024, a bout won by Mayer via majority decision to claim the WBO female welterweight title, which had been held by Ryan since April 22, 2023.
Nearly six months later, tempers are still boiling between the two, particularly because of what occurred in the hours preceding the fight last September.
On the day of that bout, which took place in New York City, Ryan was leaving her hotel for the event when she was struck in the stomach by a tin of red paint thrown by an unknown individual.
She shook it off, cleaned up and the fight went on as scheduled later that night. Understandably upset and believing one of Mayer’s team was the culprit, Ryan demanded an immediate rematch after the 10-round back-and-forth that ultimately saw her lose by unanimous decision.
With the rematch nearly here, we take a look at all you need to know ahead of Mayer vs. Ryan 2.
