Coventry City forward Haji Wright's Premier League debut will have to wait after picking up a quad injury.
The United States international forward, Haji Wright, has blossomed into a clinical striker in the past few years, and helped Coventry City earn promotion to the Premier League by scoring 17 goals in the clubs English Championship title last season.
Wright has also named to Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT 2026 World Cup roster, however, he only made two brief appearances off the bench against Australia and Belgium.
The 28-year-old is a crucial member of Frank Lampard's team that will play in the Premier League this season for the first time in 25 years.
Coventry have solid depth up front to fill in for Wright while he misses time, including Ellis Simms, Brandon Thomas-Asante, and new signing Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forrest.
Wright missed all of Coventry's final preseason friendlies, and it was announced after that he will miss an extended period of time with a quad injury.
"He won't be available for a little while, he's got a very serious quad injury which is disappointing for Haji and for us," Lampard told reporters. "It's certainly going to be a number of weeks, could even be up to 12 weeks."
Wright is confirmed out for Coventry's opening match of the season against the reining champions, Arsenal, on Friday, and is expected to miss roughly three months.
With an estimated 12 weeks on the sidelines, Wright could make his Premier League debut in mid-November.
Coventry are scheduled to play three Premier League matches in November against Everton (Nov. 7), Crystal Palace (Nov. 21), and Leeds United (Nov. 28). If the 12 week recovery is accurate, he could make his debut in the competition in one of those games.
Wright could be eased back into the team slowly, appearing in a cup match before making his Premier League debut, if Coventry remain in the FA Cup and League Cup at that time.
