WM Phoenix Open: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The decibel count on the PGA Tour is about to rise as more than 500,000 fans descend on golf's most attended event, the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale's Stadium Course.

Best known for its totally enclosed par-three 16th hole, the Tom Wieskopf and Jay Morrish-designed Stadium Course first hosted this tournament in 1987, when Paul Azinger took the title. It has since grown into one of the most recognizable stops on the Tour schedule.

A par-71 measuring at 7,261 total yards, Scottsdale is more than just a beer-soaked par-three. The par-five 15th hole and the driveable par-four 17th also make for a dramatic closing stretch which has contributed to many nerve-wracking finishes in recent years.

While it lost its Signature Event status for the 2025 season, the Phoenix Open still attracts its share of superstars and this year's event is headlined by Scottie Scheffler, who dominates the betting for a tournament he has already won twice.

The world number one is just +300 to claim a third Phoenix Open title with Justin Thomas next in at +1100.

WM Phoenix Open betting picks and predictions

Scottie Scheffler to win (+300)

PGA Tour bettors always have to weigh up whether to support Scheffler at cramped odds and this looks to be one of those weeks when the world's top golfer is almost impossible to ignore despite his status as a heavy favorite.

Scheffler was easier to swerve at last week's Pebble Beach Pro-Am on his belated return from hand surgery but there was a lot to like about how the 28-year-old played in his first event of 2025, where he finished ninth behind an impressive Rory McIlroy.

While he never really looked like winning the tournament, Scheffler struck his irons superbly at Pebble Beach to lead an elite field in strokes gained on approach, picking up where he left off after he finished a stellar 2024 season with victory at the Hero World Challenge.

Scheffler has fond memories of the Phoenix Open. Scottsdale was where he won for the first time in 2022, sparking a brilliant run that culminated in a first Masters title before returning to defend his title in Phoenix the following year.

The Texas-based star fell short 12 months ago, finishing third behind Nick Taylor as a cold putter hampered him over the weekend, but he's won nine worldwide titles over the last year and it will take a big effort to beat him on his second start of the campaign.

Sepp Straka to win (+3500)

While Justin Thomas and Hideki Matsuyama are rated the most likely to stop Scheffler in his bid for a third Phoenix win, it's Sepp Straka who could pose the biggest challenge following another excellent week at Pebble Beach.

The 31-year-old Austrian won a third PGA Tour title at the American Express last month. He then found himself in the final group last week and remained in with a shot of winning at the turn before his playing partner McIlroy turned on the jets to pull away on the back nine.

Straka ran out of gas in his attempts to keep up with his Ryder Cup colleague but, now that the dust has settled, a seventh-placed finish capped another sterling week for a player who has PGA Tour finishes of 9-15-30-1-7 from December until now.

His TPC Scottsdale record is underwhelming - he has made just one cut in three Phoenix appearances - but he's been striking his irons brilliantly in recent weeks and this venue rewards tee-to-green consistency.

Andrew Novak to win (+8000)

Andrew Novak has risen to a career-high 75th in the world rankings and he can continue to go from strength to strength by contending for a first PGA Tour title this week.

Novak went out in the final group of the Farmers Insurance Open two weeks ago, eventually finishing third behind Harris English. He then made the trip to Pebble Beach and placed 13th where a third-round 75 in tough conditions effectively ended his chances.

A greens-in-regulation machine, Novak finished eighth in Phoenix on his debut last year and will be full of confidence ahead of his return.
