2024 U.S. Open: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The golfing elite descend on Pinehurst No. 2 course this week for the 124th U.S. Open, and it promises to be another enthralling battle for major glory.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the man to beat heading into the event following his Memorial Tournament victory last week, and he is +300 to claim his second major championship of the year.

The last time the U.S. Open was held at Pinehurst was 2014, when German Martin Kaymer blew away the field to win by eight shots.

Seven of the last nine U.S. Open winners have been from the United States, and the stars and stripes could continue their dominance in this year's edition, with a two-time major winner standing out.

2024 U.S. Open betting picks and predictions

Collin Morikawa to win +1400

While Scheffler is rightly the favorite to claim the spoils, the difficulty of this assignment makes it hard to back him at such short odds and there is better value in siding with Collin Morikawa at +1400.

The two-time Major champion has rediscovered his best form after a tough few months and it all started with a t-3 finish in April's Masters, with his form since that Augusta performance reading 9-T16-T4-4-2.

Morikawa's approach play has been superb in his last six appearances, especially in last week's Memorial Tournament where he was T4 in strokes gained: approach, while there have also been encouraging signs with the putter.

The 27-year-old has a solid U.S. Open record, producing finishes of T35-MC-T4-T5-T14, and he is capable of plotting his way around this treacherous course.

Alex Noren to win +10000

There are plenty of European challengers in the field this week but one name being overlooked in the betting is Sweden's Alex Noren, who looks like a great each-way play at +10000.

The 41-year-old has been playing some solid stuff on the PGA Tour this season, notably finishing third at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and T12 at last month's PGA Championship.

Not only is Noren's long game in solid shape, he ranks 18th in greens in regulation and 39th in SG: approach this season, but his short game has also been impressive.

The Swede is eighth in SG: around-the-green and third in scrambling, two departments that are likely to have a huge say on the overall winner of the US Open.

It is nearly six years since Noren won the last of his 10 DP World Tour titles, but he can return to the winners' circle in the grandest fashion with a first Major success.

Tournament winning margin - Won in a playoff +450

With Pinehurst such a difficult test, this could turn out to be quite a grind for the world's leading players and level-par will likely be the target for the tournament winning score prior to Thursday's opening round.

Although Kaymer ran away with the title here in 2014, the chances of someone blitzing their way to glory look low and that could make for a tight encounter at the top.

The last three editions of the U.S. Open have all been won by one-stroke margins, highlighting how close those battles have been, and there is a chance extra holes may be needed this week.
