The 2024 winner's payout is up from the $3 million taken home by Brian Harman in 2023, but is the smallest winner's payout of any men's golf major this year.
The runner-up at the 2024 Open Championship recieves $1.759 million. Third place will get $1.128 million.
Billy Horschel and Jusitn Rose tied for second at the 2024 Open, so they split the winnings of second and third place prize money combined.

You might be wondering why some players took home less than what they should have for where they finished.
For ties, the players split the sum of the prize money for their finishing position and all subsequent spots that no player finished in. So for second-place finishers, they split the sum of the second, third, fourth and fifth-place prize, hence why their share is less than if they had finished alone in third.
Golfers that don’t make the weekend at the The Open Championship will receive a payout of at least $8,750.
In a normal PGA Tour or DP World Tour event, players who miss the halfway cut wouldn’t normally get any prize money.
The total purse for the 2024 Open Championship is $17 million.
This is a $500,000 increase from the 2023 purse, and remains the smallest of the four men's golf majors.
