Vidanta Vallarta hosts this week's Mexico Open for the fourth year in a row and it promises to be an enthralling spectacle at The Norman Signature Course.
Although many of the leading players in the world are taking a break after last week's Geneses Invitational, there is still a strong field headed by Akshay Bhatia (+1700) who will be vying for glory.
The bigger hitters should prosper at The Norman Signature Course, a flat track with wide fairways and minimal rough, and Rasmus Hojgaard looks a solid bet to pick up the win.
Danish star Hojgaard is tied-11th in driving distance on the PGA Tour this season, averaging 318.2 yards, and his extra power should see him get in the mix in Mexico.
The 23-year-old, who is a five-time DP World Tour winner, finished T14 on his first outing of 2025 at the Dubai Desert Classic before then going T22 at Pebble Beach and T12 at the Phoenix Open.
A missed cut at last week's Genesis was a disappointment but Hojgaard looks capable of making a big splash on his Mexico Open debut.
There is a lot of hype surrounding 20-year-old South African Aldrich Potgieter, who won The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic in January 2024 to become the youngest winner in Korn Ferry Tour history at 19 years, 133 days.
Having earned his PGA Tour card for this season, Potgieter missed the cut in his first two outings this year before then producing a solid tied-15th effort at the Farmers Insurance Open on his most recent showing.
Making his Mexico Open debut this week, the world number 198 should take to this course like a duck to water, especially as he is unrivalled in driving distance and second in strokes gained off-the-tee.
While Aaron Rai is not necessarily one of the biggest hitters - he is 176th in driving distance - he remains one of the most accurate off the tee and ranks 10th in this department.
Regularly finding the fairway makes life a lot easier and the Englishman does this with aplomb, while his solid approach play and improved short game make him a dangerous contender.
There is also positive form to take from his T15 finish at The Sentry at the start of the year, an event played at Kapalua in Hawaii. Jon Rahm, winner of the 2022 Mexico Open, compared that course to The Norman Signature Course.
Another player that doesn't fall into the power category is Justin Lower, who averages just over 300 yards in driving distance, but that didn't stop him from contending last year when finishing tied-third.
The 35-year-old's form has been mixed from his four PGA Tour starts this season, but there were plenty of positives to take from his tied-third effort at the American Express and a similar showing to that should get him in the mix.
Lower has also shown form at courses similar to this week's layout, with a fourth-placed finish at the Corales Puntacana R & C Championship in April last year a big plus.
The American was also second at the World Wide Technology Championship in November, an event staged at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal at Diamante layout in Mexico, and that form bodes well for a strong effort this week.
