Los Angeles GC vs. New York GC: TGL Picks, Predictions and Odds

The inaugural TGL season has reached the playoff stage and the first semifinal takes place on Monday evening, when Los Angeles GC take on New York GC.

Los Angeles topped the standings in the regular season on nine points, tasting success in four of their five matches and winning a leading 27 holes.

As for New York, they grabbed the fourth and final playoff place after amassing five points, coming out on top in just two of their five encounters, but managing to win 23 holes in total.

These two played out a thrilling contest in the regular season, with Los Angeles staging a fantastic comeback in the final four holes to level the scores and then secure the overtime win.

New York appeared to be on course for a comfortable win, as they were 4-0 ahead with just four holes left to play, only for LA to win the 12th, 13th (dropping the hammer) and 14th to tie things up.

After halving the 15th, the two teams headed into overtime where Collin Morikawa held his nerve when sticking his approach to 6ft, three foot better than Rickie Fowler's closest to the pin attempt.

Another close battle could be on the cards on Monday, especially as New York has gone with the trio of Xander Schauffele, who didn't play in the regular season meeting, Fowler and Cameron Young.

Los Angeles are represented by Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood and Sahith Theegala, with the one alteration from the last meeting being Fleetwood's return in place of Tony Finau.

While TGL is a different atmosphere and concept to the normal tournaments on the PGA Tour, it still pays to be in form and the LA trio have looked better than their New York rivals.

Morikawa has started the year in red-hot fashion, finishing second at The Sentry, T17 at both Pebble Beach and the Genesis Invitational, runner-up at the Arnold Palmer and then T10 at the Players Championship.

Fleetwood's worst finish from five starts this year is a T22 at Pebble Beach, with a T14 last time out at the Players a strong effort, while Theegala showcased his quality with a T17 at the Genesis.

As for New York, Schauffele has struggled to get into the groove after a fantastic 2024 and he heads into this match on the back of a 72nd place at the Players.

Young has missed four cuts this year and was T61st at TPC Sawgrass last week, while Fowler was 71st at the Players and appears to be lacking confidence once again.

New York won't roll over and they have shown battling qualities to force their way into the playoffs, but the better form of the Los Angeles trio should eventually shine through and send Schauffele and co packing.

As previously mentioned, the Los Angeles trio head into this contest in solid form and it would be no surprise to see them leading after the first three holes.

LA were ahead after three holes in three of their five regular season matches and they will be eager to make a better start than they did the last time they faced New York, who were 2-0 ahead after three.

It looks unlikely that New York will race into such an early lead again, given the lack of form their trio are showing right now, and there is plenty of value in backing Los Angeles to start hot.
