The 2025 LIV Golf season heads to the United States this week for its fifth event, LIV Golf Miami, held at the iconic Blue Monster Course at Trump National Doral.
Joaquin Niemann continued his superb start to the year by finishing five shots clear of Brooks Koepka in Singapore three weeks ago.
It was the Chilean star’s second victory in the first four LIV events of this season, emulating the fast start he made in 2024.
Niemann won two of the first three events last year and eventually went on to finish second in the season-long race for the Individual title.
He will be tough to beat again this week - as will Fireballs GC, who were the winning team for a third event in a row after finishing ahead of second-placed Legion XIII and 4Aces GC in third.
But the iconic Blue Monster Course, which stretches 7,608 yards and is renowned for its challenging layout, should play into the hands of the longer hitters.
Strategically placed bunkers, Bermuda roughs, contoured greens, and numerous water hazards will demand precise approach play and solid putting while the course is over 200 yards longer than Sentosa GC in Singapore.
Organizers will hope for a closely-fought battle at the top of the leaderboard which could culminate on the course’s signature 18th hole - a daunting par-4 that has decided many tournaments over the years.
A star-studded field will compete from Friday to Sunday and, with a dozen of those players preparing for The Masters next week, this tournament serves as a critical tune-up for those seeking glory in Augusta.
Bryson DeChambeau’s power and precision off the tee make him a strong contender at Doral.
He ranks third in driving distance (317.4 yards) and seventh in driving accuracy (66.67%), two attributes crucial for navigating the Blue Monster’s flowing fairways and water hazards.
The two-time US Open champion overcame a sloppy start to finish T10 in Singapore after shooting 10-under across the final two rounds.
His past success at Doral includes helping Crushers GC capture the Team Championship in 2023. Backing the Californian to win offers value given his ability to dominate long courses.
Dean Burmester returns to Doral as the defending champion after defeating Sergio Garcia on the second playoff hole last year.
The South African ranks second in driving distance and sixth in GIR this season, making him well-suited for the Blue Monster’s challenges.
Burmester’s consistency on long tracks marks him out as a leading candidate for another run at the title.
Niemann is arguably LIV Golf’s most consistent performer this season, sitting atop the individual standings after victories in Adelaide and Singapore.
The Torque GC captain ranks among the top six in birdies made, scrambling opportunities, greens in regulation (GIR), and driving distance.
His adaptability and sharp approach play make him a strong contender to be in the mix again come Championship Sunday.
And, on a course that rewards accuracy and creativity, he has the qualities to finish in the top five.
Johnson’s recent T5 finish in Singapore suggests he is rounding into form at just the right time ahead of the challenge of Augusta National next week.
A two-time Major winner and past champion at Doral, Johnson’s experience on tough tracks makes him a solid bet for a top-10 finish and his ability to score low under pressure could see him contend once again in Miami.
