Jon Rahm was finally able to celebrate his first victory in LIV Golf when he won the UK leg of the breakaway tour earlier this month, but the Spaniard has some work to do before this week’s gathering at Greenbrier after seeing gold slip through his fingers in Paris.

The 29-year-old was four shots clear with eight holes to play but finished outside the medals after going five-over-par over those closing stages at Le Golf National, allowing World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to finish on top of the podium.

Rahm will be desperate to put that behind him this week, but nearest market rival Bryson DeChambeau will be confident of doing well after carding a round of 58 at the West Virginia course 12 months ago.

Joaquin Niemann to win (+900)

LIV Golf’s individual prize will be decided at next month’s final gathering in Chicago before the team finals and Joaquin Niemann should be doing everything in his power to ensure he remains on top of the table before the trip to Illinois.

The Chilean took control of the standings after winning two of the opening three events of the campaign at Mayakoba and Jeddah. Niemann has been the model of consistency ever since, finishing in the top 10 in seven of the eight tournaments since.

That included a tie for second at the JCB Golf and Country Club in Staffordshire last time, alongside Tyrrell Hatton and Cameron Smith as his nearest title rival Jon Rahm came out on top.

He was one of seven other Olympic competitors from LIV alongside Rahm last week and showed he has to be respected in any golf field by finishing in ninth.

A return to Greenbrier should also fill him with great confidence as he tasted glory at the venue in the Military Tribute in 2019 on the PGA Tour by a whopping six shots, shooting a second-round 62 and closing with a 64.

He would have come a lot closer to victory the year before but settled for fifth as a third-round 72 ruined his chances.

Paul Casey to win (+2200)

Englishman Paul Casey will have been pleased to have finished fifth on home turf in his last LIV outing and there have been signs that the former Ryder Cup star is capable of stringing together some strong results as the season enters its climax.

Casey’s putting was off the mark at the beginning of the season and let him down on his only Greenbrier outing on the PGA Tour nine years ago.

His experience last year was not much better when he ended up 36th, but his putter has started behaving itself and he should also be spurred on by recent ninth-placed finishes in Houston and Nashville.

Casey, who lost a playoff in Hong Kong against Mexico’s Abraham Ancer in March, has always possessed the tee-to-green game to be a force in golf tournaments. Now that he is beginning to find his feet on the greens, he is capable of putting up a bold bid to win this week.

Marc Leishman to win (+5000)

Marc Leishman hit an opening round of 69 at LIV Golf UK before he was forced to withdraw and rushed to hospital for an appendix operation.

However, a three-week break should have done the Australian good and he had gone to Staffordshireshire having finished in the top 18 in four of his previous five starts.

That run included a runner-up spot in Singapore and fourth in Miami, so it would be dangerous to completely rule him out of the Greenbrier equation.
