The Golden State Warriors lost one of the pillars of their dynasty in free agency this offseason, and they will look to replace his production with multiple additions as the team tries to return to its former glory.
Klay Thompson left for another Western Conference team, the Dallas Mavericks, leaving Stephen Curry and Draymond Green as the last remaining members of the 2014/15 title-winning team, which kicked off the Warriors dynasty.
The Warriors last won the title in 2021/22, capping off a run of four titles and seven NBA Finals appearances in eight seasons. The '21/22 season was one of the first in the Dubs' "parallel pathway" strategy, where the front office tries to get the best out of Curry's final prime years while developing for the future.
Some of those young players - Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody, mainly - stepped up last year, but the Warriors' 46-36 record, 10th-placed finish in the Western Conference, and Play-In Tournament exit were not up to the standards of head coach Steve Kerr.
After losing Thompson, Golden State decided to replace his production (17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 38.7 percent three-point shooting on average last season) by committee. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. brought in Buddy Hield, DeAnthony Melton and Kyle Anderson to replace Thompson's shooting and perimeter defending.
The Warriors struggled to find a consistent starting lineup last season as nine players started at least 15 games, but this year's core of Curry, Green, Kuminga, Podziemski, Moody, Hield, Melton, Anderson, Kevon Looney, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Gary Payton II is more versatile than last year's guard-heavy roster.
Ahead of a season that will tell us a lot about this team's immediate and distant future, let's look at the Warriors' odds for the 2024/25 campaign ahead of the team's season opener.
