Gerrit Cole will make his second start of the World Series as the Yankees looks to stay alive in Wednesday’s Game 5.
Cole, who signed a then-franchise record nine-year, $324 million contract in 2019, was brought to New York for this very reason – to win, or in this case, extend the World Series.
He’ll go up against Dodgers Game 1 starter Jack Flaherty in what could be a title-clincher for Los Angeles, who enter Wednesday night leading 3-1 in the series.
Cole tossed 6 innings in Game 1, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run. When he left the game, the Yankees led 2-1 before ultimately losing to a Freddie Freeman walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning.
