Friday Esports: LCS Summer matches preview

Things are heating up in North America's elite League of Legends division with the LCS Summer approaching a key point in its group stage.

Taking place at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, the LCS Summer has a prize pool of $200,000 and features the best 10 League of Legends teams in North America.

To begin with, they are playing in a double round-robin group stage with the top eight set to advance to the double-elimination playoffs.

In the playoffs, matches are carried out in a best-of-five format with the top three set to qualify for the end-of-season League of Legends World Championship, while fourth spot seals a World Championship Wildcard Qualifier position.

Here is a look at the latest batch of matches taking place on Friday night featuring teams such as FlyQuest, Evil Geniuses and Cloud9.

FlyQuest look to recapture week three form against Dignitas

It has been a rollercoaster LCS Summer campaign for FlyQuest, who looked dead and buried after the first two weeks, having lost each of their opening six matches.

But in week three they turned things around with wins in all three of their games against Team Liquid, NRG and Immortals and they are now once again in contention to make the top eight and the playoffs.

They started on the back foot again in week four, losing to 100 Thieves and Golden Guardians but at -225, they are fancied to beat Dignitas, who are only a few places above them in the table.

Dignitas are on course for the playoffs too but will be looking over their shoulder and the result may not be the way to go in this one.

Instead, back favorites FlyQuest to record first blood - something they have done in 64 percent of their matches in the LCS Summer - at -137.

Evil Geniuses should ease to victory over NRG

OddsNRG +163, Evil Geniuses -225

A spot in the top two in the LCS Summer group stage guarantees a place in the upper-bracket semi-finals in the playoffs and Evil Geniuses are on course to achieve exactly that.

With nine wins from 11 matches, they lead the way in the LCS Summer table but have Cloud9 and Golden Guardians hot on their heels so they cannot leave anything to chance in their next match against NRG.

Evil Geniuses have won both of their matches in week four so far, beating Dignitas and 100 Thieves, and it is no surprise to see them rated -225 to win on Friday.

But to extract more value from the match, punters should instead look at Evil Geniuses at -7.5 on the kill handicap at -120.

Evil Geniuses have the best kill-death ratio in the LCS Summer at 1.71 and only Golden Guardians (16.3) have averaged more kills per game than the favorites (15.3).

Expect a routine win for Cloud9 against LCS Summer basement boys

OddsImmortal +500, Cloud9 -900

One of the more one-sided affairs taking place in the LCS Summer this weekend is between top-two hopefuls Cloud9 and basement boys Immortals.

Immortals are +500 to pull off a shock win in this one, having lost nine of their 11 fixtures in the LCS Summer this season, while -900 Cloud9 have won eight of their 11 assignments.

Most recently Cloud9 saw off Dignitas, although they lost to big-hitters Golden Guardians beforehand and it remains to be seen if they can win the battle to make the top two.

In this kind of match, though, they should have no problems and they are worth chancing at -9.5 on the kill handicap at -120.

Unsurprisingly, Immortals have the worst kill-death ratio in the division at 0.47, while their average deaths per game stands at 15.8.

Cloud9 should capitalise and can get the job done.
