The revamped FIFA Club World Cup debuts with a new format in summer 2025.
The competition, which formerly saw seven teams from six FIFA confederations compete in the middle of the club season each December, has been expanded to 32 teams from around the globe including MLS teams and European powerhouses.
The 32-team competition will mirror the old format of the UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup with eight 4-team groups, and two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stages.

The FIFA Club World Cup will kick off on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
The opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on Sunday, June 15.
The final will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, July 13.
The FIFA Club World Cup will be broadcast globally on DAZN for free.
DAZN has the option to sub-license to other American broadcasters, per The Athletic.
32 teams will participate, a significant increase from the previous 7-team format.
Eight groups of four teams will be formed.
Round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stage.
Knockout stage will consist of the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final.

With the 32nd team in the Club World Cup reserved for a club from the host nation, it was announced that MLS club Inter Miami would be included in the competition even though they did not technically qualify for the tournament.
Lionel Messi is under contract with Inter Miami through the 2025 MLS season, and therefore, barring injury, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will feature in the 2025 Club World Cup.
