The FIFA Club World Cup debuts in summer 2025, with 32 teams from around the globe competing for the trophy.
The competition formerly consisted of seven teams, all champions of their continents club competition (i.e. the UEFA Champions League for European clubs), but has been revamped to a brand new style and format for 2025.
The brand new FIFA Club World Cup will follow the same format as the old UEFA Champions League with eight four-team groups playing three group stage matches before the single-elimination knockout stages.
In total, 12 teams from Europe, six from South America, four from Asia, four from Africa, four from North/Central American and the Caribbean, one from Oceania and one from the tournament’s host nation (in 2025, the United States) are invited to the competition.
In 2025, the U.S. based team invited to the competition is Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
